Hello! My name is Destiny Shaver, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing at Carlisle Christian Academy! I have the privilege of teaching Middle School & High School Spanish, as well as helping to run the Extended Care program after school. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Cairn University, as well as minors in both Bible & Urban Ministry. I am passionate about people, and helping to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those around me.
Prior to starting at CCA, I had the opportunity to intern with two very diverse agencies. From 2017-2018, I worked closely with Esperanza Health Center (EHC). Here, I was able to be a part of their ministry at the Hunting Park & Kensington locations, working within the Department of Community Health & Wellness. This multi-cultural ministry provides holistic, affordable healthcare to the Latino and underserved communities of Philadelphia. Some of my favorite projects that I was able to complete while working with EHC was getting to research, create, and begin implementing a Medical Legal Partnership for the Health Center, as well as providing research and data for the health center’s strategic planning. Then from 2018-2019, I was able to serve at Shalom House, which is an emergency shelter for women and children, located in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg. Here, I was able to gain experience working one on one with clients as a full time case worker. I have also had the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally. I have been to the Dominican Republic twice, serving in La Jaguita, as well as observing diverse ministries throughout Guatemala, & every major city in the United States.
When I am not at school, you’ll find me with my wonderful husband, Justin. We love being outdoors! Some of our favorite hobbies include hiking and mountain biking. We also enjoy getting to spend time with our families; loving on our parents, our siblings, & our niece and nephews. One of my favorite verses in Scripture is Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” And furthering this verse, Philippians 3:7-14. My life finds all of its meaning in Christ, and my relationship with Him is my most precious gift & possession.
